Rebecca Tapscott
Through my art, I strive to create a world where nature, humanity, and creativity intertwine harmoniously. As a multi-disciplinary visual artist based on Bundjalung Country in Northern New South Wales, Australia, I draw inspiration from the diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage that surround me.
With a formal training in painting and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Charles Sturt University, my artistic journey spans over three decades. I have explored various mediums such as painting, drawing, cyanotype, jewelry-making, ceramics, sculpture, print-making, film and animation, photography, digital art, and card-making. Additionally, my involvement in public art projects has allowed me to create captivating murals throughout the Northern Rivers region, engaging with the local community and showcasing the beauty of art in public spaces.
My artistic practice reflects my deep-rooted connection to the natural world and my experiences as a cancer survivor. These personal aspects of my life fuel my exploration of the interplay between nature, humanity, and the existential question of mortality. Through my recent works, I examine the impact of human interference and climate change on the delicate balance of our ecosystem. By incorporating plants and animals in various representations, I aim to raise awareness and foster a sense of responsibility towards the preservation of our environment.
Visually, my diverse body of work is united through the vibrant colors I employ and the continuous line drawing technique I embrace. The line, symbolizing life itself, signifies the unbroken and interconnected nature of existence. It represents the energy that flows through us and the interdependence between all living beings. Through this visual language, I hope to convey the profound connection between humans and the natural world, inviting viewers to contemplate their own place within this intricate tapestry of life.
In addition to my art practice, I am deeply committed to education, both as a passionate educator and a devoted mother. I find great joy in sharing my knowledge and creative processes with others, nurturing the next generation of artists and fostering a love for artistic expression. My private art studio, The Occasional Studio, serves as a space for exploration and growth, where I teach and create alongside my students.
As I continue to navigate the realms of private artmaking, public art projects, and teaching, I am driven by a vision to create a world where art serves as a bridge between humans and nature. I invite you to join me on this journey to "Create Your World," where creativity, connection, and environmental stewardship coexist in harmony.
